Frozen Greek Yogurt

Grab your ice cream maker for the simplest, most delicious homemade frozen yogurt. The result is just like sweet-tart soft-serve style froyo and takes less than 10 minutes to make. Serve it with your favorite toppings for a healthy dessert, delicious after-school snack, or even for breakfast if the weather is hot!

Equipment

  • ice cream maker

Ingredients

  • 1 32-ounce container Greek Yogurt (plain or flavored, full fat, low fat, or nonfat)
  • toppings of choice

Instructions

  • Prepare/freeze an ice cream maker according to the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Set up and turn on the ice cream maker.
  • Pour the yogurt into the machine. Spin until the yogurt is creamy and cold but not frozen solid, 8-10 minutes.
  • Serve immediately, with your favorite toppings.

Notes

Tips:
  1. For a true froyo consistency, frozen Greek yogurt is best served straight out of the ice cream maker. It can be made in advance, but gets icy and firm if stored in the freezer.
  2. Every ice cream maker is different. Yours may take longer or shorter to achieve a smooth, creamy consistency. (Note that every freezer is different too. If your ice cream maker was in the deep freeze, it may freeze your Greek yogurt much faster than 8 minutes.)
If using plain (unsweetened) Greek yogurt:
In a small saucepan, combine:
  •  1/2 cup half and half
  • 3 Tablespoons sugar
Heat over medium heat, stirring often, just until the sugar dissolves. Remove the pan from the heat and let it cool for 5 minutes. Whisk the half and half into 1 32-ounce container of Greek yogurt. Pour the mixture into the ice cream maker as directed in the recipe above.
