Spicy Chex Mix Recipe

Spicy Chex mix is a sweet and salty twist on a classic party snack. This spicy, crunchy, and totally addictive crowd favorite combines crunchy peanuts, crispy Chex, and a sriracha-based blend of spices and seasonings that will have everyone at the party reaching for more.

Equipment

  • Half Sheet Pan
  • Parchment Paper
  • Saucepan

Ingredients

  • 9 cups rice, wheat, or corn Chex (any combination will do but I like equal parts of the three)
  • 3 cups Bugels corn chips
  • 1 cup roasted peanuts
  • 1 cup bite-sized pretzels
  • 8 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 to 3 tablespoons chili crisp (see note)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 250 F. Cover a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Combine cereal, Bugels, peanuts, and pretzels in a large mixing bowl or plastic bag.
  • In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Whisk in all of the remaining ingredients. Pour over the cereal mixture and stir evenly combined.
  • Spread the snack mix out on the prepared baking sheet and bake until golden brown and fragrant, about 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes.
  • Allow to cool completely before transferring to an airtight container. Store at room temperature for up to a week.

Notes

Chili Crisp - Chili crisp gives this Chex Mix its spicy crunch and adds more flavor and texture. I use Trader Joe's Chili Onion Crunch which is fairly mild, so 2 1/2 tablespoons is the right amount for a Chex Mix that is spicy but not excessively so. If you are using a particularly spicy brand, be sure to adjust the amount accordingly. This recipe also works well with 1 tablespoon of Sriracha hot sauce instead of the chili crisp.
