Sweet and Spicy Candied Pecans

Crunchy, fragrant pecans are tossed in sugar and spices for this easy, crowd-pleasing recipe. These make a great snack to serve with cocktails or pack them up in jars to give as gifts.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup White Sugar
  • 1 tsp Ground Cinnamon
  • 3/4 tsp Kosher Salt
  • 1/4 tsp Ground Ginger
  • 1/8 tsp Ground Cardamom
  • 1 pinch Cayenne (optional)
  • 1 Egg White
  • 1 lb Pecan Halves (about 4 cups)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 250°F / 121°C.
  • Line a rimmed sheet pan with parchment paper.
  • In a small mixing bowl, combine sugar, cinnamon, salt, ground ginger, ground cardamom, and a pinch of cayenne pepper. Set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl egg white with a hand mixer (or standing mixer) until very light and frothy, ~3 minutes. Gently fold pecans into egg whites until evenly coated.
  • Sprinkle sugar mixture over pecans and stir until pecans are evenly coated.
  • Spread pecans out on prepared baking sheet in an even layer.
  • Bake for 1 hour, stirring halfway through cooking, until sugar coating is crisp.
  • Let cool completely on the sheet pan and then use your hands to gently break pecans apart.
  • Store in a sealed container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.
